THE SLEEPY JACKSON - GOD LEAD YOUR SOUL
I grabbed this single out of shittyradioFM’s ‘throw out’ box a few years ago. Radio stations get a criminal amount of music/clothes/food/new products and everything else sent to them in the hope someone will like it and promote it. Being the shit kicker I used to do the mail sometimes and I always felt bad when I stuffed handwritten bundles from kids and local bands into the over full and often ignored pigeon holes of the radio powers that be. I’d wonder how much hope that kid had in someone at the station listening to it and getting back to them.
Record companies too, would send too much of everything and the over flow would end up in the throw out box. This is where a keen eyed, underpaid shit kicker like myself would swoop in. God Lead your Soul was he last major single I can recall from the Sleepy Jackson before Luke Steel started referring to himself in the thrid person as ‘The Steel’ and making what I consider generic, bland, shitty electronica with ‘Empire of the Sun’. Apparently most people don’t agree with this, but what do they know? The Steely Jackspn were so different, almost ethereal in their sound and Empire of the Sun is the musical mess of the obvious.
Get into the Sleepy Jackson before you ever listen to Luke Steel’s electronic, apache indian, space wizard beyond the thunderdome offerings.
