BASEMENT JAXX - ROOTY
You keep on giving me the hold up! You know I wish you’d make your mind up! Surely one of the greatest house album’s ever - Kish Kash offers up a little bit of everything. Romeo was used in an Aerobics class at my gym for 2 years straight, I’m amazed how much of my music awareness started while falling over my own feet trying to master a grapevine in 3/4 leggings. There’s something about listening to music while you’re sweaty and puffing that makes you like it even more. Positive association by use of endorphins I’d speculate.
I’ve seen Basement Jaxx a few times, the standout was Big Day Out in 2004. Ridiculously hot, sweaty and cramped in a too small tent I was positioned, as usual in what would become a thoroughfare for annoying punks moving to the front. In my rush to get away I moved behind a stocky, shirtless, sweat soaked dude busting a move while wearing a backpack. My friend and I took the piss out of him for a while and it was fun while it lasted but my predicament in seeing the ever changing line up of live singers for the band prevailed and I used my elbows to great affect!
Later that year I moved 2.5 hours inland, and 25 years back in time to a rural town for work. Kish Kash became my salvation when the local ‘club’ played Five like it was normal, I could escape to my deliberately overheated lounge room and dance the hicks away.
